It began with Eddie Izzard. World comedian, rising Hollywood star, all-around good guy. In the summer of 2009, he ran 43 Marathons in 51 days, raising money for a charity called Sport Relief. His efforts inspired many, and some us began a running club on Twitter. We called ourselves the Endlophins because of a tweet Eddie sent toward the end of his five-week training pre-Marathon of Marathons: “Good evening from London to all around the world. Weather today – medium poo. No running for me – I miss the endolphins.” The reference, of course, was to endorphins – the wonderful little chemicals your brain secretes when you’re physically active. They’re nature’s anti-depressants, really. So, being inspired by the man, we adopted the name.
This blog, specifically, chronicles my journey. I started running during Eddie’s 1st week of Marathons. Before that, the last time I’d run was 15 years and 60 pounds ago. I am currently running 5Ks, and hope to train for the LA Marathon, which is in March, 2010. In order to do that, I need to raise $100 (initially, just to begin training), and then another $900. All raised funds go to The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
If donating to this cause still doesn’t inspire you to donate, I’ll make you the following offer: for every $10 donation, I’ll send you a special “Doing It for the Endolphins” desktop image. For every $25 donation, I’ll send you a custom-made Twitter avatar. Feeling generous, and willing to donate $50 or more? You’ll get your own, custom-made Twitter background. Not on Twitter? I’ll customize a desktop background for you.
Thank you so much for your support.
